Working with Groups within the Local Community
Jean McIntosh who has been a volunteer for over 11 years explained in detail how important it was for businesses within the community to be more involved. Jean explained many other things we could assist the community with, like training in the understanding of waste disposal and misuse of cleaning detergents and she went on to explain how a young girl named Chloe had tragically been killed by a falling wall in the North end of Birkenhead and so we offered our assistance and ask could we get involved there.

BEANBAG discovered that the community needed help and Jean took it upon herself to contact the powers that be within the Wirral Partnership Homes organisation to seek permission to create a memorial garden in memory of Chloe. The news circled the information highway and the “Prince’s Trust” heard about it and felt that it was appropriate to offer their assistance. Tom, the team leader, of the trust had a vision of how the memorial would look and he also had the volunteers to achieve it, but not having the resources locally i.e., skips, soil, flowers, mini-diggers etc, the project was struggling to get underway.

After explaining to Jean about the company’s experience and understanding
of how we have tackled various land clearance contracts, she turned to us
for advice and guidance. This was an opportunity for West Cheshire Cleaning Services
to engage and introduce as many contractors as it could from its approved
suppliers list, with the aim to get things off to a rapid start and try
and get some materials and services donated as well. From start to finish
the memorial was completed within three weeks.

As part of our commitment to the project and as a thank you to BNBEAG and Chloe’s family for being allowed to control the project, we donated turf and obtained 40 tonnes of soil free, to create a “Children’s Educational Play Area,” this was created to the right of the community house. See pictures enclosed.
Since then West Cheshire Cleaning Services has engaged in other community activities and in the recent ITV big clean up weekend. The company, along with another business, Aquamole Drainage Services, guided and organised Wirral Partnership Homes employees along with their supervisor, Claire Newton, to restore an unused piece of land at the rear of the BNBEAG community house. This challenge really tested the commitment of all the volunteers on the day and we have enclosed pictures for your perusal.

Following all of our recent efforts and involvement with the community, we were asked by Jean if we would like to be BNBEAG’s preferred “Facility Managing Agency in Partnership,” which following the success of recent events has given them total confidence and knowledge that we have the expertise they need to rely on to see a project start from scratch and be completed in its entirety. We have now realised our main role will be to serve as a vessel for various organisations who wish to use our procurement and commercial expertise in order to engage specialist contractors as a non profit understanding, and we will ensure any engagement the organisations have with a contractor is provided in full and specifications are adhered too within budget.
Since helping the community West Cheshire Cleaning Services Board of Directors has now adopted the philosophy that –
“Every company’s future lies within its own community, and we need to be a part of it”.
